Cow mattresses

A cow mattress is an essential component for cow welfare (cow comfort) and therefore partly responsible for your dairy farm’s bottom line.

Cow mattress – comfortable, consistent and affordable!

Agriprom offers a consistent and comfortable cow mattress. Quality but also knowledge of the material play a role in this. We therefore first of all ensure that our mattresses have a compressibility of around 20 mm with optimal elasticity. This compressibility has been classified as cow comfortable by the DLG.The compressibility and elasticity are the basis for the cow mattress, on which a cow can easily rest for 14 hours and ensures that the mattress does not form indentations, even after a long period of use.We set high standards for a cow mattress:

  • A cow mattress should provide a consistent lounger over the long term
  • A cow mattress must offer a comfortable place to lie down
  • Cows must be able to stand up and lie down on it with confidence

Composition of the cow mattresses

For the top layer we opt for natural rubber reinforced with a nylon insert. Natural rubber is more elastic and tear-resistant than a recycled alternative. We offer several thicknesses and profiles according to the preference of the dairy farmer. We choose Energetic® Ecolatex for the bottom layer because it is more elastic and softer than bottom layers of recycled rubber or filling with rubber granulate. The Energetic® Ecolatex filling is so heavy (> 300 kg/m³) and strong that it has a much longer lifespan while fully retaining comfort than mattresses with a filling of polyether/foam rubber, which are often lighter and weigh less than 200 kg /m³.Energetic Ecolatex also has a better ‘memory’ than polyether, which means it returns longer and better to the starting position and therefore no pits (read permanent deformation) arise. With polyether, cows may sink further (higher compressibility, according to the DLG) but they experience less comfort and, certainly in the long term, the recovery capacity of lighter foam is less. The thickness of a mattress does not say everything about comfort and long-term comfort. Like a human mattress, joint health does not require extreme softness. The quality of the substrate and surface and a good weight distribution are decisive. Materials with extreme softness often lose their elasticity quickly, causing pits.

Quality testing

Our rubber top layers are produced for their purpose: to provide long-term comfort. We test the rubber rollers for tensile strength and wear upon arrival. We also test by means of the ‘crowbar test’ whether the mattress continues to return to its original condition after 100,000 impressions (comparable to 10 years of use). Naturally, all our cow mattresses are DLG tested.
