Agriprom received an important innovation award for the Dairy Star Start-Up Boost Bolus. Every year, a specialized jury evaluates the most important innovations in different product areas.
The Dairy Star Start Up Boost Bolus received this award because this method of preventing hypocalcaemia is unique. This bolus enables the cow to raise the calcium level in the blood from her own metabolism.
The preventive solution for hypocalcaemia
The slow release bolus for high pregnant cows remains active in the rumen for a long time. The active substances help with the absorption and regulation of calcium and magnesium. This bolus helps prevent milk fever. Due to its mass, the bolus remains in the rumen, where it slowly releases 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 glycoside. This active form of vitamin D3 is easily absorbed by the gut. This form of vitamin D3 is already
active and does not need to be activated by the liver or kidneys. It helps in the absorption and regulation of calcium and magnesium.
This bolus is administered 2 days before the expected calving time and delivers Calcitriol to the cow over a 10 day period. This allows the cow to increase the level of calcium in the blood from its own metabolism. The effectiveness of Calcitriol for use in dairy cows against milk fever has been confirmed, among other things, in an EFSA report (European Food Safety Authority).
